Looking for GOOD trouble • finding the sweet spot

Providing direction, conceptual and story-based design, GSUB’s goal is to produce an entertaining and emotional piece of work.

There are two types of stories - the kind you read, view as a movie or experience as a game and the kind of journey that goes into making them.

Six months to a year and a half is required to work a feature story. And that is with the best people for the job who have years of experience. Once the structural flaws and dramatic weak points are identified an additional year of finesse and the implementation of executive notes is often needed. GSUB can help with overall schedule as well as adjust the nuts and bolts.

story and visual development

I have been a participant in one of Mike's story lab workshops. I came with a project that I worked on for more than a year - but I still didn’t have a script draft that I liked. I loved the story but I felt the structure of the script was wrong. The two week workshop saved my project. Mike gives lectures in the first week about his list of rules for story structure – and after that a 1 on 1 daily session in which you are crafting the story from scratch. In those sessions Mike doesn't go according to the rules, the terms of right and wrong are not part of the process, he is completely invested in each story development and gives great and wise notes, he gives his own personal insight- after a week of those sessions I had a draft that I loved, and it's actually the final draft which right now is in production. I recommend every writer or storyteller take Mike's workshop- I can promise you that you will benefit from it and your film will benefit from it.

In the Anomalia Story Lab which Mike was leading, I came with the first draft of a script and many unanswered questions. Mike was very supportive throughout the workshop and thanks to his help I quickly realized the weak and strong points of the story and how to improve it by keeping it simple and effective. I have also learned how useful it is to use images while working on the script, which I had never done before. His advice about story structure has been extremely useful and it changed the way I work on stories since.

I am grateful to Mike for his help with my bachelor's film Writing Home in its early development. His mentoring helped to finalize the script, which pushed the project forward and enabled us to get the film fully funded. Mike is really kind and has helpful knowledge of storytelling and filmmaking. He was clear with his advice, which quickly helped me push the project in the right direction. Our film will be finished this year and I cannot be more thankful.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike at Ants Animation on a feature story team I was managing. A consummate professional, Mike is a brilliant story artist, imaginative, knows character development, has a great sense of humor, and knows how to put the characters into interesting predicaments that are irresistible. Mike goes out of his way to include the rest of the team for fresh eyes, grabs assignments like a magnet, and adds great character business and details to his work – and ultimately brings sequences to life in fresh ways with personality. He also has very mature sensibilities on the story management side, which I found useful as a sounding board, and for advice, when I needed to make strategic or tactical decisions. I highly recommend Mike for any motion picture story or development position, and I would work with Mike again on any production.
